The only crit I have is the use of black outlines under their chins and around the boys face etc.......when the rest of the piece is so painterly these look glaringly 'wrong'.

Yes these black outlines're quite disturbingThe background and the images look separated because of the different styles you used:they are too diferent,on my opinion.But I don't sure -maybe it is another way to merge this styles...

I like the black lines, I'm a sucker for thick lines around characters or objects and combination of styles, it makes a piece interesting.

Awww, this is absolutely beautiful and sweet. I was thinking the girls looks like you've drawn her before, than I read the description. NIce job on the likeness of your own characters. The skintones are a wee bit saturated for my taste, maybe bring in some of the light green in the bg too.

This picture itself is really awesome but I believe, that these hard Outlines really destroy the soft and gentle coloration.
Maybe this contradictory is totally intention, but otherwise, as you already said, there are a lot of mistakes-most of them anatomical, some in dealing with colours.
But all in all this picture really has charisma!!°_~
